Woody Pitkat knows a thing or two about doing a lot of racing. In 2009, Pitkat is currently competing in every event of four series, one of those series being a traveling series while the other three are based out of two different tracks. With a schedule packed with 69 races and counting Pitkat must always be on his game and ready to put his best foot forward to find his way to victory lane.
Of the 13 races thus far of the Sunoco Modified Season at Connecticut’s Thompson International Speedway, Woody Pitkat now has two wins and nine top-five finishes, the second of those two wins coming this past Thursday.
“We had two practice sessions,” explained Pitkat. “There was one fairly early in the day and then we had one later in the day, so we just waited until the last one and went out. The car was really good, so we basically didn’t make any adjustments.”
By making such a confident move and not adjusting the car, a tiny seedling of doubt was manifesting itself in the back of Pitkat’s mind.
“I was a little worried that I was going to be slow from the day to the night because the weather probably dropped 15 to 20 degrees, but we must have just hit it on the setup,” said Pitkat. “Luckily, we had a good starting spot since we started fourth so I figured we would be okay.”
His suspicions were correct, as their strategy held strong and allowed Pitkat to escalate himself to the top spot.
“I got out front early and it was a cakewalk for a little while,” recollected Pitkat. “Then there were a couple restarts at the end and the car started to get tight, but we had a good race for a little while and it was a good, hard race to the finish.”

Pitkat also had a busy schedule of racing on his plate last Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway, but action there was rained out.
