Although rain washed out both his SK Modified and Late Model races planned for the weekend at Stafford Motor Speedway (CT), Woody Pitkat was still able to strap into his Sunoco Modified at Thompson International Speedway (CT) and capture a fourth-place finish.
It seemed Pitkat had the luck of the draw going into the event on Thursday as he found himself a great position in his heat race.
“We seemed to be pretty good during the day,” explained Pitkat. “We were good in the heat race. We were actually in sort of an easier heat race since they seemed to stack the other heat.”
Pitkat wasted no time in taking advantage of his good fortune, but like any dedicated racer, he was still able to see the possible misfortune that could be headed his way.
“I got out front early, but I never really got to see what I had for a car capable of passing because I was out front,” explained Pitkat. “So I tried to just beat on it the last two or three laps to see what I was going to have and I think it

might have hurt us for the feature because we never really got to see what it was going to be.”
Unfortunately, it seemed Pitkat’s feeling was right. However, that did not hinder him from setting is focus on getting a solid finish out of the event as he buckled down and brought home a top-five finish while also keeping a close eye on his points competition.
“We just missed the set up in the feature because of that,” commented Pitkat. “But all in all it was good. It’s getting down to the point where you’ve got to start thinking about points at the end of the year with only a couple of races left and we didn’t lose much ground.”
Pitkat is now a mere two points out of the Sunoco Modified points lead with only three races remaining in the season.
The Stafford, Connecticut, driver will be back on the asphalt this weekend with a full plate of racing beginning on Thursday with his Sunoco Modified at Thompson International Speedway, followed by the SK Modified event at Stafford Motor Speedway on Friday and the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday.
