Just like about every weekend throughout the season, Woody Pitkat was ready to race multiple events, looking for three solid results in three races on the same day.  On Sunday at Stafford Motor Speedway (CT), Pitkat drove in both the SK Modified and NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour events as well as the Late Model feature, and even though the finishing results didn’t reflect it, Pitkat had strong showings.

In the SK Modified event, Pitkat got to the lead and looked like a victory was in his grasp until a mechanical issue sidelined his car.

“We started mid-pack, and got on the outside to get to third or fourth pretty quick,” said Pitkat.  “I had a good car, but we were having some transmission problems.  It popped out of gear on one restart when I was going for the lead, so after that I was holding it for a few restarts.  It seemed like it was going to stay in gear.  When I was out in the lead, it popped out again.  With about four or five laps to go, it wouldn’t stay in gear anymore.  It must have sheered of something.  I basically gave that one away.”

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event saw Pitkat have one of his better qualifying runs of the year, but a tire issue during the race and a spin ended his chances at a solid finish.

“We finally had a good time-trial run,” explained Pitkat.  “We had problems in practice and the guys had to change the motor.  They did a super job getting the motor changed before time trials.

“We ran good early.  We started to get a little free, so we came in with the

leaders to change tires.  We got a bad right rear (tire).  We were falling back and decided to pit again, then got spun.  I am not even sure where I ended up.”

In the Late Model event, Pitkat crossed the line in the 10th position.

Pitkat will have the following weekend off before heading to the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour finale at Thompson International Speedway (CT) on October 18th.
