The season may only have a few weeks under its belt, but the signs are already showing that Woody Pitkat is a force to be reckoned with in the SK Modifieds at the Stafford Motor Speedway (CT). Pitkat finished second after starting 19th in the 26-car field on Friday night for the 40-lap main event.
“We played around in qualifying a little bit and it didn’t work to our advantage,” said Pitkat. "We ended up having to start deep in the field. We still worked hard and dodged a few wrecks before we got to the front. It’s really good that we can start that deep in the field and battle for the win in a 40-lap race. The Modifieds at Stafford are always tough competition.”
Pitkat has run countless laps already this season, but his SK experience will not transfer over to his Tour-Type Modified when the NASCAR Whelen Modified teams come to town this Friday, May 22nd for the TSI Harley-Davidson Classic.
“The cars are so different that you really can’t take one thing and use it in the other,” said Pitkat. “I did learn some things in the closing laps of the Spring Sizzler last month that I wish we had known at the start of the race. That will hopefully help us get started off on the right foot this weekend.”

Second-Place Run Gives Pitkat Points Lead
With the solid finish, Pitkat now sits atop the SK Modified points as he heads into a busy weekend of racing. On Thursday night he will be running his Sunoco Modified at the Thompson Speedway (CT) and then a double-header on Friday night with his Whelen Modified ride and his SK Modified at Stafford.
