2009 is already shaping up to be another typical busy season for Woody Pitkat and his racing in the Northeast. After running 61 races a year ago, Pitkat says he might slow down a bit, but don’t count on him taking it too easy. The 2009 regular season is now underway at the Stafford Motor Speedway (CT) and Pitkat is once again starting the year pulling double duty. With his SK Modified he came third on Friday night, while his Late Model machine was sidelined early with motor trouble leaving him 20th.
“I think everybody was a bit antsy to go back racing,” said Pitkat. “There was some bumping in the SK race, but that’s nothing new. We did battle for the lead a little bit. I think we learned that after a few weeks that we still need to work on our car a bit more. A third place finish is still a good run.”
Pitkat’s 2009 season will be made up of a full NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour schedule and SK Modified races at Stafford as well. Along with the open-wheel machines Pitkat will be running selected events in the Late Models at Stafford this season.
“We are going to run some Late Models too,” added Pitkat. “I did end up running the 100 lapper with a guy that was looking to help get some better knowledge for his son. I started in the rear and worked my way up to seventh. Something went wrong in the motor department and instead of just riding around on it we pulled it in and parked it. They were really please because I saved them some bucks in engine shop by pulling in.”

Late Model Effort Ends Early For Pitkat
Nevertheless, Pitkat still will race just about anything. Just as long as it doesn’t interfere with his Tour modified schedule, Pitkat currently sits eighth in the overall points.
“I am going to race when I can,” added Pitkat. “I am not sure if I will be at Thompson much this year, but I said that last year and we still ran 61 races. So you never know what’s going to happen. Of course, the Tour modified will be the biggest concentration right now.”
