For Modified drivers, nothing is better with turkey and stuffing than racing at Wall Township Speedway (NJ) the day after Thanksgiving. Each year, Modified drivers come from all around the county to work off the extra calories in the various Turkey Derby events.
Woody Pitkat got his extra slice of pumpkin pie during the wild SK Modified 100 feature. Pitkat started 26th in a field of 27, but when the checkered-flag flew, Pitkat ended up with a solid second-place finish. The finish was impressive considering that he never changed tires during the 100-lap feature.
“It was our call all weekend,” said Pitkat about making the tires last the entire 100 laps. “We just came down here, tried not to spend too much money, had fun and did the best we could. I also wanted to redeem myself from the last time I came here."
Pitkat ran a smart race. After 30 laps, he was already in the top five with the aid of some cautions and pit stops. Nevertheless, it was a solid finish to a season that saw Pitkat run in a total of 61 events.
“This year, the end of our season was probably one of our best. I wish we would start 2009 next week.”
