At Thompson, a second-place finish was one shy of his desired victory, but patience took precedence over pushing the issue.
“That car we have had trouble the last few weeks,” said Pitkat. “We got back on track. We started ninth and went forward. My car started off free and once the fuel burnt off we were going to have a good car. My teammate was second, so I didn’t want to use him up getting by. Once I did, the leader was too far out front. All in all though it was a good night.”
Going into Friday night, Pitkat looked to repeat the feat in the SK Modified feature at Stafford, but a mechanical issue changed that outcome early.
“The first lap of the feature, the bolt broke that holds the yolk on the rear end that holds the driveshaft in. I just had to move over and get out of the way so I didn’t get run over.”
Taking a spin around a track one time throughout a weekend is enough for some racers. For Woody Pitkat, it just isn’t enough as he races two and sometimes three times throughout a weekend.
This past weekend was not an exception as he raced Thursday night in the Sunoco Modified feature at Thompson International Speedway (CT), then headed to Stafford Motor Speedway (CT) on Friday to race in the SK Modified feature as well as the Late Model feature. The end result was two more top-five finishes adding to his 2008 resume.

Thompson-Stafford Weekend Somewhat of a Success For Mod and Late Model Racer
The frustration of the mechanical issue in the SK though was tamed down a bit after finishing fourth in the Late Model the same night.
“We just had the motor refreshed in that car,” said Pitkat of the Late Model. “In the feature, I could barely get into the throttle without getting it sideways. That is something we will have to work on. The car is capable of winning and so is the driver. We have been running good, so it would be nice to get everything together for one night and get a win.”
Next up for Pitkat is another triple-header weekend as he will race the SK Modified and the Late Model at Stafford Motor Speedway on September 5th, then head over to Thompson International to race the Sunoco Modified in the two-day show on September 6th and 7th.
