Pitkat had just come off a pair of races at Stafford Motor Speedway (CT) where he scored a third in the 100-lap Late Model feature. It was a back and forth race that could have gone Pitkat’s way had it not been for untimely caution flags.
“The car started off really good and once the fuel burned off at the end it was real tight in the center. It seemed like every time I got to second and I started to run down the leader we would get a caution. That would put me on the outside and the grip was not there and I would slip back, regroup, get back to second and the yellow would come out again. I still have to commend that kid (Dillon Moltz, winner of the Late Model 100). He is a young driver and he’s had a great season.”
Keeping track of Woody Pitkat is like trying to keep up with traveling circus. It’s sometimes hard to know where he is racing, what he is racing, and how many times he will be racing. After having already run three races over the course of a late-August weekend, Pitkat headed to Mansfield, OH for the Whelen Modified Tour race at Mansfield Motorsports Park on August 23rd, where the short track ace finished 12th.
“We were very confident because we were in the car that won the race out there last year,” said Pitkat. “We ran pretty good in practice, I think we were sixth overall. Then I just went out there and had a horrible qualifying run. We think it had something to do with the rubber that the (Camping World) East cars were putting down. We started 22nd and I worked all day to get back to 12th.”

Pitkat ran the SK Modified race that night at Stafford as well. After having to start at the rear of the field, he came to the front before being involved in a wreck. He still managed to finish 10th.
Pitkat also finished sixth in his SK modified the night before at Thompson International Speedway (CT). Pitkat will be jumping in a 750cc Mini Sprint to race at Whip City (MA) on August 30th. He of course will be running races at Thompson and Stafford as well.
