The abuse on the tires took its toll on Pitkat because teams were forced to use the same tires as the first feature.

“The tires were a little worn out, but we went from 14th to fourth before it was all over.  We were happy with the finish and it wasn’t too bad considering all the laps we have on the tires.”

The weekend ended with a 20th place run at Stafford Motor Speedway (CT) a place the Woody will get two starts on next week in his Late Model and his SK Modified Friday night.

Often times in racing, tire management is the key winning races.  The driver who saves his stuff the longest or uses his tires at the right time can easily find himself at the front at the end of the race.  Modified racing at Thompson Intentional Speedway (CT) is one of the few races where you don’t have the luxury of saving tires.  Woody Pitkat knows that too well after several years of racing at Thompson, as two races at TIS over the weekend provided different outcomes, but each time the tires were a factor.

“The first race at Thompson was a make up for a rainout earlier in the year,” said Pitkat.  “We started last and we got all the way up to the front when the caution came out with four laps to go.  We had to pit and put on a right rear tire because it was going flat.  We ended up getting back to 14th in like three laps.”
