“I think I got to seventh and I was underneath a guy on the backstretch when he got loose and bounced off the wall and got into the side of me,” explained Pitkat. “I had to go through the grass and slow down a lot and I lost some spots. It was one of those nights where you go from the front to the back to the front to the back.
“After that I got back going. Everybody was protecting the bottom so I had to go on the outside and pass a bunch of guys on the outside. At the end of the race we were fortunate enough that there was a guy that spun and three or four guys checked up. I just didn’t really check up and came across the line in fourth.”
Seeing that they could have come in a lot worse of a finishing position, Pitkat and the team were happy with the top-five finish. However, Pitkat and his crew weren’t quite as fortunate in the Late Model race that same night.
In many situations, both on and off the race track, things will get worse before they get better. This is exactly the kind of situation that Woody Pitkat was in on Friday night at Stafford Motor Speedway in the SK Modified race.
Starting 12th, Pitkat was hung up on the outside from the time the green flag dropped until about lap 17. Once he was down in the racing groove again, he began to make up for lost laps, working his way up through the field.
Pitkat Has an Up and Down Night at Stafford
Pair of Races Nets Pitkat a Top-Five in SK Modifieds
Driving a car for a friend that was trying to sell it, Pitkat started the race again
mid-pack and immediately began charging up to the front. This time a late
race wreck didn’t come to help him out, but instead it came to ruin his chances
of getting a strong finish.
“We were hoping for a top 10. On a restart with like four to go I was seventh and
the thing just quit on me,” said Pitkat. “That ended my night and it sucked because I think we could have had a top five since we were on the bottom there with four to go.”
Although his experience in the Late Model race may have been a disappointment, Pitkat still came out of the night with a top five under his belt. And with that he will be headed to Thompson International Speedway this Thursday to compete in the Sunoco Modified race and possibly take home the victory.
