Woody Pitkat came to Martinsville Speedway Saturday still on a high from his previous night’s SK Modified win at Stafford Speedway.  On short rest, Pitkat was able to maneuver his way to the front of the 300-lap Martinsville feature from his 31st starting position to complete the race with a top-10 finish in seventh.

After driving for 300 laps, Pitkat was still pumped up and happy.

“It feels awesome,” said Pitkat.  “Considering where we started and we struggled.  I knew that we were probably going to struggle because we have not been here before.  But it is just unbelievable.”

There were many cautions and the #88 car just happened to be in the area when a few occurred.

“We were in so much stuff.  There were a couple of wrecks and tried to miss it.”

As he was working his way through the field, a competition caution flew at halfway, allowing Pitkat and the Ramar-Hall, Genesis Shocks #88 team for car owner Don King to massage the machine for the stretch run.

“Working on the car, the guys were just unbelievable.  When we had the 10-minute pit stop (at the competition yellow), I got out as quick as I could to help.  Everybody just gelled.”

Young Racer Picks Up SK Modified Win Number-Four at Stafford
There was one time though that Pitkat went up too high and he got loose in the marbles.

“I tried to pass Teddy (Christopher) one time down in turn two and I almost lost it.  I do not know how I saved it.”

After trying to get around TC, Pitkat lost several spots.  Regrouping himself, Pitkat made a new charge to the front.

“Then I just felt that I needed to make up for that to the crew guys. We only had two and half inches of stagger at the end so I think that hurt us really bad because we started with three and half.  If I had not messed up down there then we probably would have been further up but I am not complaining.”

“After yesterday winning the SK race at Stafford and coming down here and starting 31st and finishing seventh, that is a good weekend.  The momentum and stuff is changing going the right way.”

Pitkat won his fourth SK Stafford race Friday night after jumping out front and leading most of the 40 lap race. Even with the cautions, his car was so good he was able to fend off any challenges.

“I got out and in the front early and I was checking out. Then there were cautions when there were about nine laps to go.  Keith (Rocco) gave me a really good run, but he was tight at the end.  So I started checking out on him when there were a few laps left to go.”

Pitkat will return to the track this Thursday at Thompson International Speedway in the #99 Sunoco Modified.
