Earlier in the weekend, Pitkat scored a fourth-place finish in the Sunoco Modified at Thompson, then finished third in the Late Model at Stafford. More mechanical woes plagued the #52 SK at Stafford Friday night, but Pitkat rebounded for a 10th-place finish.
"We changed a power valve right before the feature and a piece of plastic from the wrapper got stuck in the power valve. It went down and caused a skip. It was just my luck the last couple of weeks. We rode around and rode around and went one lap down. We came back in and changed the valve. Another caution came out we came back in and changed the carburetor.”
Pitkat will be back in action for a three-races-in-two-days stretch next weekend, September 20th and 21st, in the Sunoco Modified at Thompson on Thursday and the Late Model and SK Modified at Stafford on Friday.
Woody had an up-and-down weekend, but he was able to learn some lessons in the WMT race at New Hampshire.
"The car was real free getting in," said Pitkat of the Coors Light #79 WMT entry at NHIS. "A caution came out and they put down all that speedy dry, then one of the tires just did not feel right. On the restart, I went easy to warm up the tires. We ended up coming in and they changed the oil filter and checked all the lines and we had an oil leak."
When Pitkat came back on track, the NHIS race became a learning experience.
"The biggest thing that I wanted to do was draft with Jimmy (Blewett). Everything that I can learn in the draft, I wanted to learn from him.
"Ryan Preece and I were doing some drafting there at the end of the race, too. I just wanted to get that experience and so did he, but he followed me pretty much the last few laps, then he passed me on the last lap. It wasn't a big deal, but we were able to learn some stuff about the draft.
At this point in the season, Woody Pitkat is used to running several races over the course of the weekend. He's raced all over the map this year, from New Hampshire to North Carolina and seemingly every state in between. That's why the four-races-in-three days stretch Pitkat embarked on on Thursday through Saturday, September 13th through 15th, was easy as pie.
The success came pretty easy, as well, as Pitkat was able to score top-10 finishes in three of the four races. The only one he wasn't able to do so in, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race at New Hampshire International Speedway on Saturday, only resulted in a 24th-place finish because of mechanical troubles.
