Woody Gets Behind the Wheel During Speedweeks
Youngster Having a Ton of Fun In the Sun and In the Seat
“I was riding down in a car with James Civali,” said Pitkat. “At about 2am, his car owner for Speedweeks - Joe Brady, called. Joe asked if I was riding down with him and if I had brought by firesuit because he knew about a Florida Modified team that had a car, but not a driver.”
Being the racer that he is, Pitkat had indeed packed his driving suit. That led to the chance to do some racing. On Saturday night, Pitkat finished eighth in the #00 Florida Modified. On Sunday evening, he got even more at home in the car, finishing third.
“These cars are a lot of fun to drive,” said Pitkat. “They’ve got a lot of power and they are easy to maneuver. I’m really thankful for the chance to be racing one.”
Florida Speedweeks continues through Saturday, February 17th at New Smyrna Speedway.
Woody Pitkat wasn’t planning on driving a racecar during the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway. Instead, he was planning on taking in Florida Speedweeks as a fan.
That all changed with one phone call on his trip south.
